Alpha GPC

Research ChemicalExtensive Research

Also known as: L-Alpha Glycerylphosphorylcholine · Choline Alfoscerate

A highly bioavailable choline source that crosses the blood-brain barrier, supporting acetylcholine synthesis, cognitive function, and growth hormone release.

Overview

Alpha GPC (L-Alpha Glycerylphosphorylcholine) is the most bioavailable form of choline supplementation, capable of efficiently crossing the blood-brain barrier to support acetylcholine synthesis in the brain. Acetylcholine is the primary neurotransmitter involved in memory formation, learning, attention, and muscle contraction. Alpha GPC provides choline directly to neurons, serving as both a cognitive enhancer and a neuroprotective agent. Beyond its nootropic effects, Alpha GPC has been shown to acutely increase growth hormone secretion.

Clinical studies have demonstrated benefits for age-related cognitive decline, and it is approved as a prescription medication for Alzheimer's disease in several European countries.

Mechanism of Action

Rapidly absorbed and converted to phosphatidylcholine and free choline. Choline is taken up by cholinergic neurons and converted to acetylcholine via choline acetyltransferase (ChAT). Also serves as a phospholipid precursor for neuronal membrane synthesis. Stimulates GH release via cholinergic activation of GHRH neurons.

Key Benefits

Enhanced memory and cognitive function
Increased acetylcholine synthesis
Acute growth hormone release
Neuroprotective effects
Improved mind-muscle connection
Supports neuronal membrane integrity

Potential Side Effects

Headache (excess acetylcholine)
GI discomfort at high doses
Fishy body odor (rare)
Insomnia if taken late

Common Stacks

This peptide is commonly combined with the following compounds for synergistic effects:

CDP-CholineSemax9-ME-BCSelank

Known Interactions

The following interactions have been documented for Alpha GPC. Always consult a healthcare professional before combining compounds.

Use Caution (1)

Both are choline sources. Using together may cause excessive acetylcholine, leading to headaches, GI distress, or cholinergic side effects. Choose one.

Synergistic (1)

SemaxSynergistic

Semax enhances BDNF and neuroplasticity while Alpha GPC provides acetylcholine precursors. Together they support both structural brain health and neurotransmitter production.
